Heh. My cable orders still in processing.

I tried my HD in the house with a spare car ant. Works great, but get a slight buzz from the speakers. Gonna try the grounding thing.

just for the record... i applied the grounding fix to my rca's before i ever tested the unit out. then, i ran into my ridiculous interference issues and in turn removed that connection.

then i fixed the interference problem...

for some reason, i cannot tell any noticeable difference between the grounding fix and without (i.e. im really not getting any extra noise)

didn't know if anyone else might have had the same experience. how noticeable was the noise anyways?

EDIT: I only removed the "grounding fix" among other things while I was trying to solve my interference problems. It did not actually solve the interference... just for clarification

    uh... que????

so you removed the rca ground.. and that did NOT fix your interference? If that didnt what did?

I'm trying to do a Y cable as well, but my intention is a little different than yours. The Y "adapter" I'm going to make is just for switching the controller/carpc and audio source so that I can still listen/control the HD receiver while the carPC is NOT on.

The cheap way, and probably a lot of work, would be to use 8 micro relays, one for each wire. When the power was applied to the relays, the computer would be connected, when relays were powered off, the external screen would be connected kinda thing.
This is exactly what I'm doing. I have manual KVM switch laying around you know , but I better off getting some relays .

basicly u have TX from the pc, and TX from the display, both need to go to RX on the tuner

my 1st thought would be to bring em to ttl

course there could be collisions...and then the message would be lost

u could buffer the data... course now u got a microcontroller, and ram involed

u could also use ur pc... one comport the tuner, the other the controller
    and pass data...

    now u got to code

Do you think using just relays or manual switch to switch the controller (carPC and display controller) causing problem like "signal collisions"? I'm not interest in using carPC and the display controller at the same time, but either or.

This is how the cable look like with wire-by-wire split/connect.
    Code:
/ Female DIN to Display controller
Male DIN to reveiver -> Relay pack switch
\ Female DIN to CarPC (Mitch cable)

Heh... well let's just say I changed a million things.

I experimented with ferrite split beads, torroids, sealing up the case better, etc.

I finally got something that seemed to work... which was a combination of: having the pc case as sealed as i could get it, putting ferrite torroids on the 12v constant and 12v switched lines as close to the psu connection as possible, placing a "antenna noise eliminator" that i got at Fry's inline with the antenna connection, AND putting ferrite split beads on mitch's cable because i was then getting interference across the serial cable.

it was sick. but it seems to work.

by the way, the "antenna noise eliminator" was nothing more than a black box housing an LC circuit in parallel with the +/- antenna connection...

my only point about the RCA grounding was that i couldn't tell a difference with/without it after i had my radio working..

My tuner is ground referenced to my carPC chassis, which all my PCBs are grounded to and I have no noise issues with a straight forward simple install.

Mitchjs, Let me know when you have more cables available, I am going to order another HD tuner for testing/developing on the desktop, its much easier than software programming on a 7" screen
