collin, as far as i KNOW, NO ONE ELSE has reversed engineered the protocol..
i do know someone else is using my .dll, and if you asked permission to use it, i would have said yes. if you use refection on my dll.. which i did decide not to protect with obscufication(sp) you're still "stealing" my work.
your free to connect up the the visteon tuner to the pc with their display, and reverse engineer it yourself
if you skills are good, you may learn more things maybe i missed...

galvitron, my .net assembly is already event driven, no need to wrap it

pontiacga, nope, i really dont know much about audioreapter in detial.... it does use command line, so make a batch file....

collin - I have, with the help of a couple of others. I did this based on a combination of looking at Mitch's assembly (with his knowledge and permission), and looking at the RS232 communications directly.

Kudos to Mitch - it was not easy to figure out. I'll send you a PM with the info - it's not in a readily postable format.

Mitch, I was just doing some reading and I know that some Andy guy did a fair bit of it, and then stopped because a linux library was available that had everything. I also have a fair amount of skill in electronics, I went to Calgary and competed and won first place in all of Canada for the skilled trade of electronics. One of the categories I aced was reverse engineering.

I know you have a DLL available and I appreciate that you're willing to let me use it, however that's not my intention. The reason Im writing everything myself is to learn. If I have to reverse engineer a protocol, that's fine, I already did the iPod one and most of an OBD one, how much harder can this be?

I want all my code to be easily understood by myself so that IF something goes wrong, I know why.

The problem there is I know how to make a BAT file to start a program, just not how to set the setting when it starts.

go for it colin, as far as andy's work, im sure its all basicly taken from my code
since he based it on my cable, DTR control etc...
even has functions in his, that i have, but dont expose (but are in my code)
i dont remember/know who andy is or who Paul Cotter is.. or who HAL guy is
but i know for a fact its based on my work... its OK at this point, linux guys will rip off anything other then to be "left out" and with that attitude we got some really cool things out of them, just ask DVD JON

and Andy, at least promotes my cable. and Hal mentions me.

it amazes me why no one tryies to ask permission to use one's work. better to steal it hu?

if you coding in windows, why you wouldnt use my .dll is beyond me, besides i keep it update, and provide 0 day fix/improvements.... now you cannot sell my dll, like someone else is doing... but you can use it, infact i cant stop you on that, but to come here and ask for schematics is very odd.. might as well email visteon and ask for schematics to their radio and see if you can build it

oddly you could "sell" my dll, but dont whine about it when i found out and blast ya in the forums...

now arnt we way off topic...

HAHA yeah way off topic, sorry about that! I didnt think it was all that odd, im sure plenty of people wanted to know how it was done anyway.

I would never steal someones work, and I always at least ask before I use it, it's part of the programming nature -- once you make something that people want to use, you respect other people wanting to know when you use their stuff... strange.

No intentions of selling anything either. What I write is for me. If other people wanna use it, thats fine but unlike you, I couldn't care less if my things don't work for other people. Mostly beacuse theyre not intended to be used by them...

I may consider this DLL after all... I have this really weird organizational pattern going on in my frontend that I dont want to break, but hey if this saves me enough time, why the hell not...

The way I figure it, as long as I know the protocol, it will only take maybe an hour to implement the features I want -- I don't want bloat basically.

Now that this is settled, I gotta find me a radio now! Time to spend more money!

wrap it is a programmer term, its like changing the interface
you have to know what that means...

as for product page... nothing offical...
i did the dll and xml docs and got a chm doc for the class too
