OK, I'm waiting for a navy to borrow, and then will post here. Working now on a doublescan convertor so the picture is not THAT interlaced.

I've been a long time lurker, and have been heavily debating stock nav, after market (Eclipse/Apline), CarPC, or a hybrid of both. I found out the W505/P1 has 800x480 and was pretty sold...minus the VGA input...which is a bummer...SillyBilly, I believe you're leading the way, if that's the case, is there a way I could get in contact directly with you? A messenger or something? PMs take too long...unless that's what you prefer. Good luck.

My audio system will be mainly Alpine and it sure would be nice if something like this was available. For now I suppose I will settle for the LED Backlit Lilliput.

The touch adapter is roughly ready. Now working on drivers.
BTW, does anybody know a VGA adapter (maybe even USB dongle) with DOUBLESCAN capability? That'd ease my task on 800x480 many times.

What specifically are you referring to when you say DOUBLESCAN?

This project is of great interest to me, having searched for a quality flip out touchscreen that wont break like the xenarc/lilliput ones I've heard of. The possibility of using an alpine screen is very exciting, especially since my job is carsound retail and I get discounts on alpine gear

Infact, I was talking to an alpine rep today and he was also very interested in this project. He asked me to keep him updated on the progress.

In my store I have access to a demo board with an IVA-W502EV, IVA-D106EV and also the new iXA-W404E (as well as pioneer/kenwood/jvc/sony units). If there is anything I can do to get info from these units short of pulling them apart let me know.

Now a few questions to throw into the mix hehe:
-are the touch screen drivers going to support a dual monitor setup?
-what are the chances of getting the dvd to act as a pc-dvdrom input?
-have you tried any other brands of av units, say pioneer?

By the way, I wouldn't worry too much about the price of the final product, Better to have a quality product that costs more than something cheaper thats half finished. Isn't that why were trying to use alpine screens here instead of cheap ones?

    love your work

It's a low-res mode, when the adapter displays a frame twice, shifting these interlaced rows in the way they stitch well with previous frame, thus eliminating flicker. See CGA/Sega/Nintendo modes from the past, or contemporary video-RGB converters (I'm trying my best to avoid paying extra 200-250 Euro for one!)
I only can force a regular VGA card to display 800x480 either with 31.5KHz/60Hz, and get out of H sync on Alpine (blurred double desktop), or with 15.6KHz/30Hz (interlaced and thus horribly flaky). If I had a video card that does 15.6KHz HScan and 60Hz VScan, I'd never talk about such prehistoric things like native doublescan...

Thank you. This will be GREATLY appreciated if I get stuck again. Hopefully, I'm mostly done; the main prob is in video interface, and I do understand it; just looking for a cheaper solution than a regular RGBs converter: see above.

    1. The touchscreen will emulate mouse click, drag, and hold; nothing more is possible with the hardware, and nothing more is really needed in a regular carpc setup. If you are going to install two or more touchscreens on one computer, this will require two adapters and a custom driver. I don't plan to supply it with the product, due to individual setup difficulties.
If you mean 2 screens with only one of them controlling the pc - the answer is yes, no prob, just two adapters.
    2. No way unless you want some serious surgery. The DVD drive is not connected to any data output. HOWEVER, a w502 has a nice empty bay under the drive, so a real geek can try to install the second one.
    3. I'm not a pro in this area, I was just building my own car system when I hit the wall with this prob. So - I haven't. But I see no additional difficulties if I get paid for this, with no big investments: you may try to send me a unit and get the adapter shortly. The only requirement is proper RGBs input (no GVIF please: those chips are TOO expensive).

    Thank you.
Well, a good position for me, of course. But I'm slightly afraid of psychological barriers that people need to pass, before they decide to buy a quality adapter for say 250 Euro. I'll try to make it under 150 - wish me luck with the video part!
