That price is just for the TTL2USB cable that goes from the 'box' to the V1. You still have to purchase the TTL2USB box itself (CT-1), which is $39.

That vs. about $5-10 in parts from RatShack/Fry's/Digikey/Mouser. That is, depending on whether or not Jim's final design is still able to be made from commonly available components.

OK guys, here's the revised interface, tested and working (for me):

Note, the transistor is now a 2N3904 NPN. There's also a few more components, hopefully there won't be as many problems with this design. Should be pretty easy to build, I just modified my other interface. So who is brave enough to be the first one to try it? :)

One other note: I changed the "remote display tricker" resistor to a 3.6K, which I think is the actual value. If you've been using a 4K, it should still be fine as long as it turns the V1 display off.

If someone gets this working, let me know and I'll update my webpage with the new schematic.

I just updated the software: Software One version 1.1.0.
I added the mute capability, and I went ahead and changed the schematic on the website to the latest version that I posted earlier (revision D) to support the muting. I also have a little more confidence in this design...

It also minimizes to the system tray now, and pops up when there is an alert.
I added a "Settings" dialog with the following options you can configure:

-Auto Minimize after alert, delay XX seconds
-Auto-Mute the detector after XX seconds of a constant alert
-Auto-Connect attempt on program start
-Auto-Minimize on program start
-Keep Software One on top of other windows

If you have any questions, let me know. I tested it pretty thoroughly, but if you do happen to find bugs let me know.

Dangit, didn't catch the update in time before RatShack closed :( Don't have any NPNs...

Will hit up RS or Fry's first thing tomorrow and let you know how it goes.

Any chance you could make the source available? That would allow it to be adapted/integrated into car frontends in optimal ways. I'm thinking of RoadRunner since that's my frontend of choice since it does everything I want and is open source so I can tweak it if needed :)

Honestly, I wasn't planning on it...
Let me take a some time and get a better feel for the systems you guys are running. If necessary, maybe I could eventually meet you half way, and do an API release or something like that. :)
