Jim - I ordered and received the CT-29A and made the stereo-to-rj11 adapter from your page, but S1 doesn't see the V1.

I'm not using the remote display module for the V1.. so I assume I need to add the 4k resistor from data to 12v in order for S1 to work?

Yep. Actually, I think he reduced that value to 3.6k but anything around there should work (I've got a 3.9k in mine and it works fine for turning off the V1 display).

Let us know if that cable/adapter combo work for you. If so, I may end up trying the 6-transistor design.

As far as the GPS Matter goes, could you have it log your movement and how many "bogeys" you have, that way it could filter out the ones that are usually there (automatic door openers, etc.) and leave you only with the cops?

    Yeah what drait said.
The V1 doesn't send out the messages until it thinks the remote display is conected. Keep us updated!

Well, I decided to mess around with the interface tonight, and reverted back to Rev B, since I hadn't tried it before it quickly turned into Rev D. Swapped out the 3904 for a 3906 and removed all the resistors except for the 150 and the 47k coming off the collector of the 3906 (the mute circuit on the top layer wasn't modified). Tested this and it exhibited the same behavior as the other revisions (which means it didn't work) but this time, while it was connected to my PC, I decided to probe some of the connections and components to see what voltages there were. After seeing the fluctating voltage levels at the various components, I looked up at my monitor and noticed that S1 had lit up some indicators (my V1 goes into constant laser alert when I have it in my house near my marine fish tank; the light spectrum of the compact fluorescents must be near the same wavelength). It was stuck though once it displayed on the screen. I didn't think to screen cap it, but I did save the alert data (not that it's very long or useful):

    Code:
12:26:30 AM - All Bogies Mode
    12:26:31 AM - X   Ka     *******   /\ == \/
I tried to duplicate everything that I had done, thinking that the small amount of resistance that my DMM provides must've been placed at the right spot, but I couldn't get it to show anything again. Bummer!

So, after all that, at least I know my V1 is capable of talking to S1..

Thanks guys, I'll hit up RS for the 3.6k resistor this afternoon.

guys, i dont mean to threadcrap. i know "which is the best radar detector" has different answers from different people.
i looked at http://www.speedzones.com/ and saw that the escort x50 did better in the POP test, instant on etc.
So, is there any out port on the escort like the V1.? for the software to work?

    thanks

ps: also interesting is http://www.laserveil.com/ which has good reviews over all. has any1 tried it before

The Escort doesn't have a remote display unit available (e.g. Data Out) like the V1, so you would have to overcome a hardware limitation long before you would need to tackles software.

I've never heard mention of an external display port for the X50. It does have a one-wire hookup to their laser jammer system, which does pass information back and forth, so that might be something that could be interfaced into, but I doubt S1 would work with it.

    Thumbs up

    Alright guys..

Just got back from Radio Shack. They didn't have any 3.6k resistors, so being the electrical ignoramus that I am, I got the next closest size: 3.3k, since everything else higher was over 4k.

So.. I soldered in the 3.3k, and voila, she works!

    BTW, V1 revision is 3.821
