Of course, for the best protection a laser jammer is your best bet.
Short of buying a laser jammer though, the V1 offers the best protection you can get against laser. In tests, it consistently out performs everything else in sensitivity and field of view. Detection of laser in most cases is kind of useless bacause once your detector alerts, the cop already has a speed reading. However, there are a couple of exceptions.
If you're lucky, the V1 will alert you when a vehicle ahead is targeted. Tests have shown that this is possible with the V1. Couple the V1 with VEIL, and it is likely the cop won't get a speed reading on the first hit, but the V1 will alert, giving you time to hit the brakes before he fires again at closer range.

The LaserVeil folks did a side-by-side review of the Beltronics RX65 Pro Rev 3.6, the Escort 8500 X50 - Rev 5, and the Valentine One v3.8.18 /w POP2 (aka: V1.8).

Just a thought - could the cabling issue (where Jim's works, but drait's doesn't) be related to the different versions of the V1?
I thought about that too, as I don't have the latest revision of the V1, but according to the programming guide on V1's site, there doesn't appear to be any programmable output functions, just different radar selections and whatnot.
But as far as I know, the Concealed Display works with all versions of the V1 and hasn't changed at all since inception, so I'm thinking the data that the V1 sends out hasn't changed either.

I just got mine from V1, so it should be the latest version. Not that the version matters then, in theory, since as you said the remote display works with all versions. I attempted to find some form of version identification on the V1, but nothing struck me as particularly informative..
Would it make sense to contact V1 for input? Just throwing out some ideas..
Not being an electrical genius I'm not sure how effective I'll be, but I'll contribute to this effort in any way I can. Is there anything I can do..? Attempt to fabricate a cable..? Anything at all..? (Aside from shutting my pie-hole ;))
I see Mike Valentine once in awhile on a couple of the Porsche boards. Maybe someone can drop him a link over to this project. He might help or hell maybe even start selling such a cable. :)
Then again he might want to steer clear of it all together. (e.g. users blowing up their V1) :)

I believe Jim will be adding that as a feature to his software in the next version, once the connectivity issue gets resolved.
