So, could there be a way that you can have your PC broadcast it's I.P. address to a server? Then you could have something like a "buddy list" that would allow you to control when you were seen and also to see others as well.

It would be pretty cool to have the global map display with the locations of everyone running that program, or to see others in your area...

So does installing .Net 2.0 whack out programs using .net 1.? Or can they both be installed and run together?

I have found that to be true. Perhaps it's just poorly written .NET 1 programs that have the problem. It doesn’t make any since to me that they would make it not backward compatible.

As it stands now the GooPs remote tracking capability will only work if you can "see" the vehicle you are tracking on the network (e.g with a VPN). It will be fairly straightforward to make it work "mobile-to-fixed" (tracking vehicles remotely from your home). Making it work from "mobile-to-mobile" (so you can track others cars from your car) will be a bit more of a challenge.

I don't know what happened in Zip-Locks case but you can run them both on your machine without any problems. I know one of the beta versions of 2.0 I was using had problems working along side with 1.1 but this was only when trying get IIS to host 1.1 and 2.0 ASP.NET pages. They were built to run together on the same machine.

When I installed the .Net 2.0 framework, it installed right alongside .Net 1.1 and they seem to co-exist peacefully. All my old 1.1 apps work just fine with no problems.

Here's one I created in Illinois. One thing I should mention is that the version up there right now doesn't have the code for the settings included. I'll get a new version up tonight that will have those enabled. (The settings will let you change the icons used, whether to ignore secure points, and so forth.) The new one will also have a couple of bug fixes, such as support for really screwy characters in the SSID's.

    Here's the file...
