    USB Connection?

    Hi David,
When using GPSout, you are able to send GPS data to a USB port by pointing GPSout to something like ///WCEUSBSH001. Could you look into supporting USB connections from GPS's directly so people don't have to get converters, etc.?

    Thanks!

    I'll check it out.
Anybody that has any tips on how to do this (C++/MFC) chime in.

GooPs 1.9.3 - Maintenance Release - FTP client fixes, 3D Cursor Fixes

GooPs 1.9.3 - Maintenance Release - FTP client fixes, 3D Cursor Fixes

    GooPs version 1.9.3 Release Notes

FTP client no longer crashes with long welcome messages.

FTP client now works properly from behind firewall, through VPN.

FTP client now handles sub-directories properly.

Cursor now rendered correctly at all latitudes.
Cursor used to be distorted for those too far from 45th parallel. It
should now be rendered correctly except at extreme latitudes (>85th parallel).

If you're looking for a free FTP server to use for your remote tracking:
Try drivehq.com. It's free and they offer up to 1GB of storage.
    • Set-up your drivehq account, it only takes a minute.
    • Publish your drivehq web site. This will allow http access to the kml file that GooPs will upload.
    • Set-up the GooPs FTP client to periodically upload your kml file to your web site:
      server - ftp.drivehq.com
      filename - wwwhome/goopsfile.kml

The uploaded kml file will now be accessible via http from your drivehq website.

Now anyone can set-up a Google Earth network link to point to your kml file - http://<username>.drivehq.com/goopsfile.kml
      ( e.g. http://goops.drivehq.com/goopsfile.kml )

Or access it via Google maps: http://maps.google.com/maps?&q=http:.../goopsfile.kml

    GooPs vs Earth Bridge?

Hi to all friends of Mp3car forum, I would like to know if GooPs in your opinion is better than Earth Bridge. I used only Earth Bridge since now and works great, the only problem is that sometime Google earth says me that cannot take images from cache and ask me to continue or ignore or stop tracking also if sometimes cache exist and I don't know the reason because I started again and for sometime works.

Thanks again for any possible answer.

    Sullivan2002 from Italy.

    Hi Sullivan,

GooPs and Earthbridge do basically the same thing. The major differences are:
    • GooPs allows you to use the built in Google Earth navigation controls while tracking. Earthbridge navigation is limited to what is in the Earthbridge dialog.
    • GooPs has "AutoView" which automatically sets your zoom level and tilt based on your current speed.
    • Both programs allow you select an image file for your cursor. GooPs also has a 3D cursor.
    • Both programs display track data. GooPs also has SpeedTrack - a color coded track based on speed.
    • GooPs is optimized to achieve the fastest possible position updates from your GPS.
    • GooPs displays timestamps on the track (not sure about Earthbridge)
    • GooPs has a built in FTP client to to automatically upload your position to a server for display by remote Google Earth/Google Maps users.
    • GooPs allows you to track other GooPs users (requires peer-to-peer visibility).
    • GooPs allows you to record and play back your trip.
    • GooPs works with Google Earth 4. Earthbridge currently has difficulty because it uses a file to communicate with Google Earth (this is probably the problem you are experiencing). When Earthbridge and Google Earth access the file at the same time it causes an error in Google Earth. Currently there is no way to ignore the error (this is a bug in Google Earth).
    • GooPs is being actively maintained and developed with many improvements coming soon.

    David,

The <RotateMinimum>.5</RotateMinimum> command in the AutoZoom.cfg file doesn't seem to work in the 1.9.3 version. Everything else is awesome, great job.

    Remote Tracking

Thanks David for help already received. I have version 1.9.3.

What I want for now, is to be able to find my car when stolen. My carputer is always on when motor is running.

I cannot read *.kml files from my ftp (like yourself) but after renaming the file I got visual on http://maps.google.com/maps?&q=http:...wing/Mulle.txt and also GE works with that file. (As you can see on the trace my reception is not perfect. The GPS sensor is rock steady on my balkony rail :-))

(Edit->The file also contains syntax errors according to google maps)

Q1 ) I have problems getting the ftp client in GooPs to write to my ftp site. I also get two additional files named: "ú¤" and "goopsftp.tmp". What files are that, and for what reason might the update be turned off?

Q2 ) I have not found any Navigation sw to my likeing yet, but when I do I need the GPS sensor to talk to GooPs and that Nav system. Is that a problem? Do I need to buy http://franson.com/gpsgate/ or alike?

Q3) Another problem probably more suited for another thread is that I do not know how to make my carputer scan for and automatically connect to free WiFi access points. And when I am not in the car neider is my phone with GPRS/3G. Maybe my car needs its own cell phone....

Thanks for great effort and support!

I have some problems with the FTP-upload.
GooPs just uploads a .tmp-file. Not my choosen filename.
    Why is that?
