    David,

I might have missed it but I was expecting the file on the FTP server to be the file name I put in the box "me.txt", but the FTP log showed it uploaded it as "goopsftp.tmp". I remember you saying the file was copied to prevent it being written to and ftped at the same time, but I thought it would be renamed back as it was ftped like the batch file did.

I changed my http site to point to goopsftp.tmp and everything works perfect.

    Thanks again,
    Mike H

I just uploaded a beta release here that will allow you to save the GooPs FTP session to a log file.

To enable the FTP debug log go to Options->Save File Periodically... and check the "Save debug log" check box. The FTP session will then be logged to the file goopsftp.log in the current directory. Send the log file to me at mygoops@gmail.com.

    Thanks again for your help,

    -Dave

That's the same thing B-O is seeing when he uses gprs.

For some reason the rename of the temporary file to the real file name isn't working over the gprs connection??

I'll have to put some more debug in to figure out why. For now I guess I can put in an option to disable the rename and just copy straight to the real file.

If I can make a suggestion. If the ftp box says me.txt, have it save locally to me.tmp then copy it locally to me.txt and then ftp the me.txt file. This way there is no rename needed during ftp so it won't matter if ftp can handle it or not and you still will be ftping a different file than what the program is saving to. Just a thought.

One more little thing (sorry, David)

GooPs does not automatically connect dial-up modems if no internet access.

    A thing for your list?

    Thanks Mike,

The rename is actually on the server side. This is to keep google earth network links that are accessing the file on the server from colliding with the ftp upload.

    Mike, B-O,

I just uploaded another beta release with more debug stuff here.

To enable the debug logging check the "Enable Debug Log" box in the GooPs options dialog.

If you could run it for a few minutes with debug logging enabled and send me the file goopsdebug.log I might be able get some more clues.

I also added a checkbox so you can disable the "Copy then rename" feature.
It is in the "Save File Periodically..." dialog.

    Thanks for your help.

I tried your program, but did not succeed in connecting my Bluetooth GPS. Until now I have used the GPS only with my Palm, but never before tried to use it with the Laptop. The GPS is showing in my "Bluetooth Neighborhood" and I paired it with the Laptop. But it is unclear to me which port I should select in the Goops Settings.
In my Bluetooth settings I configured a COM port (port 5 in my case), but when I try to use this in Goops, it does not connect to the GPS. I use the port monitor (from Sysinternals) which shows that Goops is trying to read from port 5, but my GPS does not respond. Somehow I think that the Bluetooth software on the Laptop does not bind the GPS to the COM port. Is there anything else I have to configure?
    Thanks for any hint,
    Thomas

Did you try configuring the device in the Windows Device Manager on your laptop? (My Computer->Properties->Hardware->Device Manager).

I just had a look in the Device Manager, and I did not find the device (GPS) there. Where would you expect it? I do see the Bluetooth COM port, though.
I think, my Bluetooth software in general is configured correctly on the laptop. For example, I can synchronize my Palm with the Laptop through Bluetooth (also using the same COM port). Of course I did disable the Palm Hotsync before trying to connect the GPS.
