Goops seems to be very interrestingand works better than NMEAGE.

I do still have some minor problems, but I don't want to bother you with stupid questions, but I don't have enough courage to read the 25 first pages of this thread.

I was wondering if you had already written a short documentation on the functions and options of this good tool ? I didn't find any on the website.

    Thanks
    Michel

Chao Niklas (Du var svensk ändå!)

I made sure. BT were COM19 and COM21.
If I deselect _all_ COM's I get a warning from XPort when pressing service but it still opens internet via my phone and then disconnects. The same when I deselect service.

I'm not confortable with this, and I have not got a response from curioustech yet.

Leaning towards 30USD for GPSGate. If nothing happens.

    Edit:
I have now got message from Curioustech that when pressing "service" the ports are scanned. No data transfer

    hi again,

once I found your soft via the BBS google earth community, I tested the demo mode and then jumped into my car to see what it looks like when driving.

    demo mode :
    - I managed to get the big arrow and the image refreshing, but i don't remember how (it was yesterday and I read numerous information inbetween)

    real car driving :
I jumped tonight into my car with BT GPS and laptop. I ran Googs 1.9.4 but :
    - the position doen't update.
    - it only update when I press "SAVE", and the I get all the previous track displayed in the right colors. But I can't get the "big arrow" showing my position from behind. How do I let the automatic update run ?

My aim is to take the soft into my plane and get some real time display of what's going on outside, while displaying the 3D airspaces available thanks to the already dying DAFIF files (but I've saved them locally).
    About the Options :
    - could you add the possibility to choose my own units settings, as to say, in aviation we mostly need KNOTS / FEET or sometimes KPH / FT or even KPH/METERS for gliders.

    thanks for your help
    Michel

    Hi Michel,

Try unchecking and re-checking the GooPsServers network link in the Google Earth Temporary Places folder.

Make sure you have only one instance of GooPs running.

You may need to re-install Google Earth.

I'll support more units in a future release.

    Dave,

Congratulations on GooPs, what a great app!

I ran GooPs for the first time last week, and now, a week later, I have a dedicated server in my car. The server is an old IBM 200Mhz Industrial PC with a serial GPS "puck" and internet access via a Kyocera KR-1 with a KPC-650 on Verizon's network.

I have a couple of observations.

It is un-necessary to have Google Earth running on the server. Although I suspected that this was the case (and tried it), I couldn't find anything written that said so. GooPs runs just fine on my antique server without GE, and seemingly has no problem feeding multiple clients simultaneously.

We are also experiencing the failure to update problem on about half the client machines we try. Although our testing has been rather casual to this point, there seems to be no connection between the age of the GE installation and the behavior. One of the machines that won't update has a brand new GE installation. A couple that work fine haven't been touched for months. Having said that, we'll try blowing it away and re-installing.

    Again, great app...thanks!

GooPs 1.9.5 - 3D Model Cursors!, COM Port fixes, FTP fixes

    GooPs version 1.9.5 Release Notes

    New 3D Model Cursors (beta)
You can now use realistic Google Sketchup models for your cursors. There are hundreds of cars, boats, and planes to choose from at the Google 3D warehouse.

Most models will require some minor Sketchup adjustments to work properly. This includes scaling, centering the model on the origin, and rotating the model to face north.

Google Sketchup exports models to kmz format. GooPs requires that the model file (.dae - Collada format) be extracted from the kmz file using your favorite archiving program (winzip, winace).

Loading a model into Google Earth can require a great deal of memory. My system with 1GB ram can successfully load models up to about 3MB, the initial load can take several minutes.
Once the model is loaded there is little or no performance hit, and the model can be used by as many vehicles as you like.

A Collada model of a GooPs car is available on the GooPs web site:
    http://goops.drivehq.com/car2yellow.dae
Models are currently only available in demo mode.

    COM Port fixes
Added selectable Flow Control and support for 115200 baud.

    FTP fixes
Increased the command response timeout to help with GPRS connections.
Added an option to enable/disable the "rename file after copy to server" feature.

Added a Clear Track on Startup option

The Kyocera is not 802.11, is it?
(I am looking for a 802.11 USB stick with external antenna)

    Hi Argonne,

    Wow, that's an ancient computer!

I just released a version that may help your update problem (I assume you're talking about the FTP problem). If it doesn't work, try un-checking the "Copy then Rename" box in the "Save File Periodically" dialog.

The KR-1 is an 802.11/EVDO router, but yes, it has 802.11b/g and 4 wired Ethernet ports on the LAN side. For WAN it accepts PCMCIA EVDO cards, or it can use selected internet ready phones. It's working quite nicely for me. Here is a link to Kyrocera's web page on the product. Kyocera PC Mobility - Kyocera KR1 Mobile Router It's a joint project with D-Link, so you can get info on their site too.

    Dave,

Actually the problem I'm having is one that others have mentioned where a GooPs client machine successfully connects with a server, but will not auto update the server's position to create a "moving map" display. On machines where that occurs, updates only occur when you hit "save". Is that the FTP problem? (I haven't read every post yet.)
