    Argonne,

I have had several reports that re-installing Google Earth resolves this problem. It's not an FTP problem.

On machines where that occurs, updates only occur when you hit "save". Is that the FTP problem? (I haven't read every post yet.)

It's not quite that bad, Niklas. :-)

I press "option" - "new" - edit name to Mulle - "add"

and then there is a message. Only one local vehicle allowed.

I guess I have to change "localhost". Into what?

That's a common question. I probably need to make it clearer.

    • Go to the Options dialog,
    • Make sure the local vehicle is selected in the "Id" drop-down (probably "Me")
    • Type the new name in the "Name" field.
    That's it.

If I use a home PC to track CarPC using goops, does the CarPC have to be online?

    No.
you upload a trackfile to an ftp of yours when you are online, and read the file whenever you want.

I don't understand....sorry I am not very good with internet connection stuff. I have tried to track my carpc thru my home pc and it worked, I can see my carpc on my home pc but when I pull the internet connection out from the carpc I don see it in my home pc anymore.

For example if the carpc is moving around without internet(GPS on), can i track it from home?

Excuse me if I am talking down to you. Here is how it works. (And excuse me for barging in, David)

You have to get the data across somehow, obviously.

When you sign up with an ISP you also get an ftp acount that you can create your own html site on for instance. This "place" can be used to transfer this tracking data on. Means to do this is transfer of a kml-file from the carputer to the ftp server that is then downloaded by your desktop PC.

This file is updated periodically when your carPC is connected to internet in some wireless fashion. GPRS on your phone or other. How often can be configured by you.

To do this you only need GooPs at the carputer. Not Google earth or anything else. Well, a NMEA protocol GPS receiver would be nice.

This is how you configure GooPs.
    - Enter options
    - save file periodically. Give harmless extension to filename. Like "txt" so the file download is not blocked out.
    - enter ftp acount info received from your ISP.

You can then from your desktop create a link in Google Earth to this file, or open it in maps earth.

I've sent the link abow to my mother so she can follow my travel towards her in easter. 2008.

    - Automerged Doublepost crap - (Tried to send a new post. Couldn't)

Would you GooPs people be interested in someone putting up a server with a database?

    Advantages
    - You could search for your friends tracking data without knowing anything more than there names.
    - Windows messanger plugin (just dreaming on here)
    - you can safely (not ftp) transfer you own tracking
    - PC dummy friendly

Is this anything you plan to do, David?
