Thanks B-O for the good explanation,
I appreciate your jumping in.
From the beginning I have had plans to integrate a server oriented tracking solution into GooPs. I've been working on it off and on for a long time now, but I always seem to get distracted.
For maximum compatibilty, it will most likely be FTP based, built on the current FTP client, although I will probably provide a secure ftp option.
GPSgate has a server based tracking solution. I haven't tried it yet but it looks interesting.
I was wondering if there is a way to edit the kml that goops generates?
To be specific... I have a little webcam in the car that snaps a photo out the front window every 15 seconds as I drive (geeky to the extreme I know!!)
I'd like to be able to modify the uploaded kml file so that (if clicked) it would pull in the image.
My goops GE tracker is uploaded here. if anyone wants to look.
it uploads from a laptop in the car via a cingular aircard when I'm playing around with goops.

I am a sailor, and I am trying to use Goops to track my progress. However, I don't have internet access while at see.
Can I load Google Earth in its cache then run Goops to track my progress, or do I have to be connected to the internet for Goops to run?
Thanks.

Hi Sailor,
Yes you can run GooPs and Google Earth without an internet connection. You just need to pre-load the Google Earth cache by "traveling" over the areas you will be in Google Earth before you leave. You can set the cache size to up to 2GB in Tools->Options->Cache.
Hi Redian,
Check the "Troubleshooting" section of the GooPs web site here.
Also make sure you don't have the "Blurry image fix" box checked in the GooPs Options dialog.
Hi Malathar,
The kml is just ascii text so you can edit it with a program or script.

OK. Thanks for answering the question that I can run Goops and GE offline. However, Goops shows that Com2 is open and a signal is establish. So...I gather that Goops is reading my GPS. GE automatically opens when I start Goops, but I see not icon on GE of my position.
Where should I head to get help? I saw on a previous post about a troubleshooting guide. I guess I should find that.
Thanks again!
Where do you get the 3D models?
Does demo mode work?
If it does and the status bar says "Signal acquired" when you connect to your GPS you should be OK.
Your GPS needs to be moving.
You can check the "Enable debug log" box in the Options dialog, run for a minute, and send me the file goopsdebug.log
You can get 3D models here.
You need to read the instructions in the GooPs release notes on hte GooPs website to make them usable for GooPs.
There is also a GooPs car model available here. It is ready for use.
I don't think I asked my question the right way..
When goops generates the kml for the file to be ftp'd. Is there a "template" or skeleton format that is uses to create the file or is the format hard coded into the application. The reason I ask is because I'd like to be able to edit or modify the template file to insert some image tags.
I'm assuming at this point the kml output is generated from a hard coded layout in the application itself?
