Hi Brett,
I didn't receive a reply - is there any chance you could re-send it to andy@multimediacar.co.uk ?
Thanks again,
Andy
It is very difficult to find a circuit for the "grey" voltages. Well, the difficult part is to get to buy it! You may have to implement it with descrete components. To get good picture quality they have to be low impedance too....
You remember the thread? http://www.mp3car.com/vbulletin/lcd-...ontroller.html
I dropped it when I found the DL065A :-) http://web.comhem.se/bengt-olof.swing/DL065A.htm (link contains part numbers of DL065A electronics in case you don't have them)

I was refering to LCD panel drive electronics in general since it seemed like that was what you were working with.
I thought that you maybe could find some practical IC's in the links that you might have missed.
I did not get the scaling problem. Size or gamma? Can I be of help?
I have a timing generator chip for the LCD that I'll incorporate into the design. It's the same timing chip that was in the DL065A as well. I haven't gotten to the grey voltages yet, I've been primarily focused on the display driver system. Its been tough finding a product that will scale the incoming VGA both up and down. I have found one though.

Brett, may I just say THANK YOU for doing something like this.
For ages, I couldn't understand why no one before had brought a product like this to the market.
I read the 31-page thread for the double-din product already available, and like many here, I really think there is a HUGE market for a standard double-din-sized touchscreen but with no built-in amplifier and other "bolted-on" stuff which bumps costs and effectively useless when you really want a car PC
What we all want (well, I do anyway!) is a touchscreen that bolts straight into my dash giving a very sleek standard OEM look.
I'll have another search through this thread to see if I can locate those CAD drawings (you said an update was imminent). The last thing I could hope for would be some hard buttons above / below the screen which are USB-mapped and controllable via software to give instant volume control, etc, for a car PC. I strongly believe whilst volume and transport controls are accessible via the on-screen graphics and the touchscreen interface, having some hard buttons you can locate by touch/feel without having to glance down is a real bonus.
Keep up the good work! I'm all excited now![]()

This looks familiar!

Hi again Brett,
I've received the e-mail and will send you a reply later this week.
Thanks,
Andy
But with no VGA.
Sure thing.

Thanks for the support! We really appreciate it. Regarding the buttons, there will be the six USB accessible buttons on the left of the display, along with the USB accessible rotary volume knob. You won't have to press buttons to adjust the volume, just turn the knob like a normal HU! Also, there is not enough room for a set of buttons above or below the LCD panel. If the CD/DVD drive was removed, then there would be.
I won't post CAD files for a little while longer, I'm still working with them. There are some in this thread already, but they're all fairly preliminary (see the first post for links).
Any other neat ideas or suggestions?
- Brett
Not sure if this has been mentioned before or not, but could you sneak in an IR receiver on the faceplate somewhere? The space required on the visible side is small, not sure what kind of footprint would be needed PCB wise. Also, as a consumer I would like to see the initial product release focus on a few core requirements. It sounds like you guys already have most of this hashed out but I would love to see the following in an initial release:
Double DIN LCD touchscreen display
CD/DVD Reader behind fold down screen
Buttons and volume knob accessible via USB.
Choice of Bezel color or make it removable and customizable.
NO internal amplifier or stereo components. <-- As a side rant I still don't get why people clamor for internal amplification. Why in the world are you going to spend a kilobuck or so by the time it is all said and done on a carPC and ancillary equipment and play it through the lo-fidelity ****e that automakers pass off as stereo's now adays. Do your ears a favor, go drop a couple of bucks on some decent speakers and a quality amplifier. /rant off]
I would also rather not wait on the AM/FM tuner. If you scan the forums you will see that their appear to be two new Radio modules (one supporting HD radio). At the rate that has been progressing I would rather not pay for an obsolete feature that will tack on who knows how long to the ship date.
That's it. Good luck with it gents, I am waiting, cash in hand![]()
