    Brett,

Ya know, I think the Feb/March timeline would be good for me - I can buy this using my Tax refund and the wife won't mind too much!!!

Did you have this in mind the whole time?

You haven't lost me even though it's been a year. I'm more concerned about the fninshed depth dimension and where the wires come out/hook up. Iv'e got an Xterra and the structural crossmember behind the radio is SOOOOO tight (and right in the middle of the radio) that I'm afraid I won't be able to squeeze it in there. Can you provide any shots of the back of the prototype and the depth dimension?

    mike

I don't think we're too upset by this... In my case, I've set a point in time where it's either a go/no go as far as the screen goes... until then, I busy myself with other things that need doing. We haven't yet reached that point, and even if I do, there's other options to grab (though none quite as nice or well integrated).

I appreciate the progress reports you've been giving, and I'll admit that's one of the things that's given me justification for slipping the go/no go date to the right several times. Thus far, I haven't seen anyone go up in flames over this, so... no worries

Besides... Personally, I want the thing to have as few quirks as possible, so take your time to iron out any kinks (that's my take, at least).

    tominated,
The amp will be custom, but the main chip is from Tripath (tripath.com).

    speedy_parker,
No we didn't, but I suppose it will work out that way won't it? What is the max depth your Xterra can fit? Measure from the front external surface of the dash to the front edge of the support bracket.

    kshots,
Thanks for the support! I'm glad to hear your stance on this.

    Thanks!

It might work out just fine as long as Uncle Sam give's me back enough $$ !!!

I'll see if I get a chance too measure it anytime soon. Taking it apart is a PIA.

I'll tell you that the stock HU barely fits in there but I beleive (from some other threads on this and other sites) that a standard double-din dimension will be ok - as long as the connectors are in the right place.

I'm more concerned that the wiring harness/jacks/plugs/etc will be on the horizontal mid-line (right across the middle of the back of the unit) and thus create a problem because of the crossmember.

Can you send a pic of the rear of the unit and tell me that it is going to be standard DD dimensions. That should suffice I'm sure until you get some units for sale.

Keep up the work, I can wait. The expectation is killing me though...

There are connectors across the backside from the left to right. The two in the middle are one of the RCA video inputs, and the dual-USB out for external accessories. The closest edge of the B-style USB (to PC and required) to center is about .625". So, as long as your support bracket is perfectly centered, and less than 1.25" wide, you'll be fine.

    Hi All!

Happy New Year! Yes, we have made some progress! Although we're not ready yet - things have defiantly progressed since my last post. We've done a prototype that is essentially complete, with the exception of a timing problem on the LCD panel. We will need to sort this out before production.

    Hang in there!

What about making the screen transflective?
