NO...! That's NOT what I've suggested. Leave the ground wire alone. You should NEVER connect ground to any positive connection. That is a #1 recipe for disaster. NEVER do that.
You said that the amp has three connections: power, remote, and ground. The "Power" connector or post should be connected to a continuous 12V (positive) power source.
Remote should be connected to a switch power source so the amp only turns on when the sound source is turned on. For testing purpose, you could use the same power source you've connected to the "Power" connector or post.
Ground should be connected to a metal surface on your vehicle.
Again, NEVER connect ground to anything positive. NEVER..!
