Again, it comes down to the JL circuitry. I ran a JL 300/2 and 2 JL 500/1 in my Honda CIvic w/ no cap and had NO problems.

You hear JL audio you think w7, fact is, u don’t win SQ or even SPL comps with them, there a decent rounded woofer with high excursion, that’s IT! With that said jls “mass hype” is built on something that’s not even that good in my opinion. though JL 1000/1 JL500/1 amps are great, I love them to death, JL doesnt make garbage....yet
Alpine a once great company went down hill. And is going down hill period. I like to remember installing my CDA-9835(AMAZING AMAZING deck) and then installing a 9855 in my dads car, it was a joke, less voltage pre-outs, they lost 3 way crossover, they just lost so much of what defined them as a good company, I used a MRV-f545 and a mrd-1005 last year (paid 75 for the pair) best 75 dollars I ever spent, would I pay retail for them NO!
My basic point is these larger companies are going trendy, there selling to a larger demographic (wiggers mainly), were power means everything, even if quality has to be compromised, cause you know true l33tss is measured in PEAK wattage.
As for audison, you won’t go wrong, this year I plan on running the chrome shadow with my focal utopia’s. But to be honest to drive a sub, its not needed, I would personally probably go with alpine for the money.
If you EVER look to power anything other then a sub buy a phoenix gold TI500, AMAZING amp, don’t take it from spec dropping forum clowns, that jerkoff to specs and try to prove superiority buy dropping specs and going to every SQ/SPL comp in the state, take it from someone with a non-bias opinion that has spent more then $80 000 of other peoples money, trying every brand under the sun.
You can read all the reviews you want, they are swayed by buyers remorse, wankers pretending to have systems, and uneducated people thinking there entry level mb quarts, or coaxial focals are the epitome of sound quality.
So be smart sunnyjim lol, go find yourself an old PG titanium!
I will disagree about the W7 making JLs name. JL Audio was the most popular subwoofer company out there, long before the W7 was a conception. I do agree that lots of people think JL and automatically associate w/ subs and now in particular the W7. I can remember at least one Toyota Supra winning an IASCA world championship w/ JL subs as well.
YOu are totally right about the 9855 vs 9835. The 9830 twins were the nicest decks Alpine built. Although I prefer the 9833 over the 35, the 55 was aweful.
As for the JL Amps, no one can argue the build quality. They are built to perform and to last fromt the switching PS, right down to the solid state internal RCA. Personally, I cannot imaging anyone that has heard these amps on quality speakers could say a bad word about them.
Audison LRX 4 is a great amp too. Known to be a bit picky though. Great for Seas components or Focals....Doesn't get along w/ some other speakers though. I remember MMats not being a good match, also I think MB Quart Premiums maybe too werent good.
