Re-installing DOES wonders!!
Well I had all kinds of problems for months now. I tried all the updates and nothing worked.
Half the times SD would crash at the starting screen and the rest it would start and then crash with no warning or apparent reason (without even doing anything).
resuming from ether hibernation or standby failed 3 out of 4 times.
BUT then I decided to simply do a clean re-install.
I uninstalled SD, deleted all files from My Documents and re-installed the latest version from the site. Then updated to 1.0.8.1.
AND presto ALL works fine now!! Well except that map point is not compatible with my Dead Reckoning GPS so I use a simple one for SD.
I can finally say that my $200 did not go in vain! 
I thought I should just say my story because it could help many people!
If things are bad just reinstall!!
