I don't know if anyone can remember, but I was having some problems with an annoying crackling noisy when I tried to go HU-less.

Well, I'm back at it a month later, with a few upgrades/modifications.
Different 4-channel XS 600W amp, now located 2ft from PC
PC & Amp grounded very close to each other, and to a sanded bit of bodywork.
Power cables now run down side of car - data still down middle.
No USB soundcard, now a Creative Audigy 2 ZS PCI.
So all my cable runs are now pretty short, however I do have a long cables from my amp in trunk, to where the old HU was, soldered onto the existing speaker cables, and around the sides to my speakers.
Anyway, today I plugged it all in, and ta-da! Simple, crackle-free, no-HU sound. Would be interesting to know which of the modifications I did fixed the problem, but I suspect it was either the new soundcard, or the changed amp.
