I thought about doing what you did w/ my Symphony HU, but I didn't want to lose my OEM HU in case I wanted to go back to stock.

Not to mention and I would not have enough room to stuff the screen AND a hacked up HU.

Also, if you're up to painting your bezel again, look up SEM black trim paint. Pricey, but real good stuff.
