You need an external device like the Griffin iMic to get input into your Mac. Once you've done that, you can use
LineIn. It provides pass through of sound input. It's free.
Also, have you tried connecting headphones to the HQCT output and listening to it? If you can hear it, then then HQCT is working correctly and it is simply a configuration issue.
