According to Microsoft, PAN and DUN are the same exact thing, but PAN actually offers an interface on the phone (i.e. Internet Sharing), whereas DUN was fully controlled via the PC. A look into the registry of the 8525 proves this to be true... the "PAN" service is still called "Dial-Up Networking."

They have said the move was to make it much easier to connect to the internet, but I agree with those of you that think it's a pain to have take out your phone, go to Internet Sharing, tell it to connect, and THEN you can connect your pc to it. Perhaps Microsoft wasn't considering the Car PC crowd in this move. I will say however that it definitely is nice in that it has done away with the pain-in-the-a$$ of setting up the BT modem on your pc. Too bad it has in turn introduced the pain-in-the-a$$ of having to go to your phone everytime you want to connect.
