No.
If you set CF as your sytem shell, your desktop and start menu (explorer.exe) will not have loaded. You have removed explorer.exe from your
startup sequence and replaced it with CF.
Although you have replaced explorer.exe with CF, windows still handles it as if nothing whaschanged Ie. Normally if explorer hangs and closes, windows automatically restarts. If you manually stop explorer.exe through task manager or alike, windows will automatically restart explorer.exe and you keep going on your merry way.
Now that you have changed CF to run as your system shell, CF will behave the same way. If you close CF or it hangs, windows will automatically restart it.
You can just turn the 'run as system shell' setitng in CF off and windows will load like normal. I've done it plenty of times.
