ah, digging up the old stuff
in the end both will work & neither is a limiting factor for sound quality. with a head the PC becomes just another source like red said, but I think it's more than just a CD changer

I mean everything you can do with a PC alone you can do with a PC & head unit, everything. you can still run a front end, still build custom skins for it, still browse the web, still do obd2, still do each & every thing a PC does bar none, you could ignore the head unit for months & it would be the equivalent of a PC only setup. only difference is if the PC is not on for any reason, you still have a fully functional system with a head unit.
in the end, to me it all comes down to space & how well you can set your carpc up as far as reliability & as close to 100% up time as possible. I used to think I would never want to go totally headless, but my opinion on that has changed over the years, I still think a full blown hybrid system is the ultimate if you have the space, but I now know that a PC only can still be a great thing, space & personal preference will dictate what's better for you, neither is better or worse, just different. & yeah, a lot of times a pc with a head unit is easier
wow, this thread is from back when I used to type novels in my posts
