They (manufacturers) price faceplates at about 80-90% of the retail cost of the actual deck to prevent theft of a unit without the faceplate. Meaning, if you actually took your faceplate with you, they would have got the bluetooth kit, and that's pretty much it. Don't know why they took the faceplate, maybe they are listing it on ebay for you to buy it back from them.
I had my whole car torn apart once, it was such a hassle to get everything back into place. Now, I try to make my installs as stealthy as possible, and that's not just the look, the sound has to be too. The only reason someone would want to case your car, is because they heard what you have, and wanted it for themselves.
Hope your ebaying finds you a good replacement, some of the faceplates here are untested and could easily go out. One thing I want to caution, is some of the faceplates have to be "married" to the deck, meaning you can't just use any ol face. It is supposed to comprise of a tech (you...) taking the deck apart and setting up the faceplate... Not sure if alpine did this, actually I'm trying to remember who did this, kenwood, pioneer? unsure...
