WHen I try to connect using the previous phone (sanyo 8100) connections it gives me a "error 680- no dial tone" message. The #777 worked with my old phone but I'm having trouble get the Katana phone to work.

Any suggestions?

Are you paying the $39.99/mo for phone as a modem? If not you might also get a "Could not verify Username and Password" error, even when you have the right info put in the system.

As a Sprint Employee, I know first hand that the phones will not allow data access through DUN profile, or USB cable without the PAM (phone as a modem) SOC (Service Order Code) on the account.

The phone has actually a few "usernames" one for data access to the phone (vision/powervision), one for picture-mail (@pm.sprint.com), one for phone as a modem (PAM Basic), etc. The billing system has to enable each username for each feature to work. The only way the username becomes active is with the PAM ($39.99, $49.99) plan on the account.

If you use the NAI hack listed on sprintusers.com you may actually be able to use the vision/powervision password for data access, but may not be for long. Sprint will be able to monitor usage, and excessive use will trigger an audit, and the usage will be analyzed. If you are found to be using PAM without paying for it, Sprint has the right to backdate the plan usage to the beginning, or cancel your account for misuse of services.
See here:

These customers were costing Sprint money, and Sprint decided to shut them down. If you are found to be using the service other than what is described in the Terms and Conditions, you can be cancelled and forced to pay the $200 fee. This happened for the people using Free Roaming excessively, so don't expect to be excluded because you have the data plan. You may save $25/month for a few months, but when you are forced to pay $200, you may be sorry you didn't do it the legal way.

A better solution:
Sierra 595 USB mobile broadband modem. It allows a usb connection, broadband speeds, and limited GPS connectivity (meaning location only, but no turn by turn.)

I'm not trying to squash anyone's hopes or anything, just trying to give a fair warning about what is possible. You may end up paying more for it!
