The higher number zoom (i.e. 18, 17, 16) correspond with the lower number zoom (1...). The lower zoom (5, 4, 3, 2, 1) corrspond with the higher zoom (...100). Another way to look at it is the higher number zoom (maps) correspond to the zoom lever being all the way up, and the lower zoom with the zoom lever being towards the bottom of the screen.
