I had two rockford fosgate 1001BD amps, each wired to it's own Pioneer TSW-2000SPL, and it sounded great, over 150dB. Sure SQ suffered, but it wasn't an SQ or SQL setup.
Which btw had the bd sync system that allowed two amps to be perfectly synced in mono operation.

to the op: the type r's can handle 1000 watts each. Read around a bit a lot of people have been successful with 1000watts to the sub without problems, as longa s you aren't giving a clipped signal
