according to this article, ASUS is coming out with a touchscreen model later this year (although it appears that only the 9" model which have it).

I have an EeePC 701 4G. I didn't buy it to use in my car, but it has many good features that make it pretty well suited for use as a carPC...
1. the first thing is it's low power use, it runs on 9.5v @2.3amps (and most of that current goes to charging the battery, without the battery it will use a lot less)
2. the second great feature is it's SSD. 4GB isn't much, but it's great for loading an nLited XP and some programs. you can use flash memory for MP3 storage
3. it has a built-in SDHC card slot. get a 16GB card and you've got a 20GB solid state system for under $500
4. it has a 7" screen and a VGA output. if you don't want a touchscreen then you can use the built in screen in your dash. if you want a touchscreen then it'll likely cost at least $120 to add one, so it's still worth it to buy an external touchscreen monitor.
5. it has 3 external USB ports which enough for your touchscreen, GPS mouse, and bluetooth dongle. you can use the webcam input as another USB, or use the USB from the mini-PCIe slot inside, giving you 5 pc-powered USB

yes it has lots of potential to be modded. but it's already a good option right out of the box. and for people who don't want to mod their dash, then it's small enough to be used as-is (just mount it to a bracket off the console, etc). :/
