Im not sure if all SATA work the same. My install uses a converter to make the IDE HDD to a SATA HDD. Same thing with the DVD ROM. My MoBo detected the DVD ROM immediately, but not the HDD. Turns out the SATA converter was fried. So I switched them and it saw the HDD right away and booted up really really fast. I should have went SATA a long time ago. On my board it installs the SATA drives under THIRD MASTER, THIRD SLAVE, FOURTH MASTER and FOURTH SLAVE. Try going into your BIOS and see if there is an option to enable the 3rd master and slave.
