SD went on sale 01/2006 and was in development from, well, I show a single post from 2001, but the first real "streetdeck" related post was 01/2006, when it went on sale, so not sure of the actual "start date".
CF is sold by everyone and their mother.
SD is sold (owned, developed, etc., I don't give a damn what they claim) by MP3car.com
It would be interesting to see how they fare on total SALES, not users. The truth is CF "SHOULD" be #1. I just doubt the numbers vs. sales matrix show it. Anyway, I just wanted to give kudos to CF so people didn't think I was totally unreasonable. But I still prefer SD.
Edit: Ok, to be fair, the first REAL CF post was 12/2004, so lets go with 2 years in beta instead of 6.
Fair enough. I used to be strictly SD too, but then got spooked when it looked like it was getting altogether abandoned. I'm just as curious as everyone else to know what the fate of SD is, but in the meantime I decided to give CF a go, and I really like it. The one thing I really missed most about SD was gestures. Imagine my excitement when I learned that version 2.0 of CF will include gesturing.
In any case, to each his own and I certainly can't sweat ya if you prefer SD. I genuinely hope you and the other loyal SD users don't get screwed by just getting dropped and left behind by those guys. Give CF 2.0 a test drive when it comes out though... ya just never know
