As I suspected, the 9-pin connection was the cause of my problems. I measured ~130 ohms across the connector on the white USB Data+ wire (where it should have been ~ 0 ohms ) I also found the connection between the perimeter shielding wraps to be sloppy, with much fiddling required to establish connectivity. I just finished replacing both ends with Molex connectors (pics to follow shortly), and the problems have all gone away.

Other than those issues, I am very happy with the display. Car install to come in a few weeks

This connector was also a source of frustration with regard to a clean video connection. Sometime in the next few days I am going to cut these connectors off and put some molex connectors on instead. Will update on how this turns out.

FYI for others struggling with the same problem, I would plug the USB touchscreen cable in, and Windows would bring up an "unrecognized device" message. I'm sure the drivers were installed correctly on the PC.
