If im reading this correctly, you are saying you can attach the post marked collector directly to a 12 volt source? is that right? Then attach the base post to the number 4 wire from your serial port and attach the emitter post to the relay switch on the amp. Once the package is installed in Winxp, and the services start up, it should turn on the amp? Did I get that correct? I ask because I have that thump in my system as well and would really like to get rid of it. Are the posts on the transistor marked which is which or is there a color code involved?
