My UPS is a BackUPS Office, and the battery in it is an "HC 1217W" which after a quick google shows up as a 12v... That makes things easier, next step is to see if I need to regulate it at all before hooking it up to the battery.

Also, I think mine beeps when on backup power, so that little buzzer will have to be ripped out...
