I've finally discovered how to keep XP from running check disk on startup after a non-graceful shutdown (all you fellow POS ITPS owners know what I'm talkin about). This is a registry modification:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Contro l\Session Manager
REG_MULTI_SZ: BootExecute=""

with the autocheck autochk * removed you'll no longer be bothered with check disk.
