Cool i ended up finding a single row 1x24 dot matrix vfd (which will match the one in my car perfectly) that has the HD44780 parallel controller that you refered to in your post about char. lcd support: http://www.mp3car.com/vbulletin/centrafuse/38655-integrated-character-lcd-support.html

I think I'm good to go... as long as i can wire this thing up.

What type of information can be displayed on this display? Is it limited to track info or can other applications take advantage of this (i.e. navigation)
