I have the grey-scale 640x480 LCD w/ ISA controller. You definitely cannot see it in direct sunlight but if you can get it in the shade it quite descent - i only have real visibility problem during very sunny afternoons. I opted for this over the Sharp 6" because I didn't want to hassel with the electronics of getting it working and I heard the font resolution was poor. The LCD is 9.5", I wish is were smaller (6" would be cool) but all-in-all it was certainly worth the $90 i paid. When I was ordering the LCD the guy told me they were going to have the color LCD soon and that it was much more visible in sunlight and had a better viewable angle...

The grey-scale LCD worked out of the box on 6 different motherboards except one from Gigabyte and I don't know why. If you haven't already bought your mobo, and you want this LCD, I would wait until the display comes in to buy your mobo because if it doesn't work you'll have time to trade in your mobo for a new one...

In my opinion the VGA display is more flexible in the long run, but you're definitely gonna need room in you car to use it.
