Well, both amps are nice, a JL amp can do 1-4ohm the same wattage, whereas the memphis will not, its 4ohm ratings are lower then the 1ohm. But I like both amps, but the JL is a solid 1000wrms, rms is true rating which is difficult to find in car audio, the memphis may do a bit under 1000wrms, got a link?
About the subs, its all up to the box. Either ported, sealed, ABC, snailshell, TL, any type of box the w7 will be cleaner than the kickers. If the box is ported correctly the w7 will be louder but the kickers in the right box will also scream, something around 4cuft at a low freq is best for the kickers. The w7 would need about 2.5cuft and be as loud if not louder. But in the end of the day the 12w7 will always sound better, sometimes its not always about who is louder. In the end of the day, as with any sub in the world, its all in the box. A prefrab will get you nowhere. Hope this helps.
