FAQ: Fooling pc to think a keyboard is plugged in.

I was helping ooopseyesharted , and I told him that if you have no keyboard the computer might give an error. Anyways lets gon on with the tut. :

Theres 2 ways to get the computer to boot.

1) The soft method (might not always work).

2) The hard method (always works).

-----------------------------------------------------

1) The soft method: (soft = software)

a) Go in your computer bios settings.

*(on most computers: press delete when you first boot the computer)
**(On computers such as dell , compaq , hp , etc... , its usualy one of the F keys).

b) Look for: "halt on keyboard error" Or something similar. - Set it to False ( or no).

If you have this option : "halt on all errors" or something similar - Set it to False (or no.)

If you have none of these options move to the hard method

..c) On some computers enabling Quick boot in the bios menu will bypass the keyboard check.
-----------------------------------------------------

2) The hard method (hard = hardware)

For this mod you need a 10k ohm resistor (carbon film). (you can get them at radio shack).

AT style connector(older):

There are 3 ways you can do this:

1. get a old keyboard and cut the AT plug.

Strip the wires , with a tester check wich pins go with wich wires. We need the wires for pin 4 and 5(check the picture above).

Solder the resistor between the 2 wires you found.(solder the resistor in any direction it doesnt matter).

2. Insert the resistor on the motherboard connector between pins 4 and 5 and hot glue it in place.

Or 3. With a tester find were pins 4 and 5 lead on the motherboard. And solder the resistor there.

Ps2 style connector (newer):

1. get a ps2 keyboard and cut the ps2 plug.

Strip the wires , with a tester check wich pins go with wich wires. We need the wires for pin 3 and 4(check the picture above).

Solder the resistor between the 2 wires you found.(solder the resistor in any direction it doesnt matter).

2. Insert the resistor on the motherboard connector between pins 3 and 4 and hot glue it in place.

Or 3. With a tester find were pins 3 and 4 lead on the motherboard. And solder the resistor there.

-----------------------------------------------------

This concludes the tutorial.

Thanks to google for the info and pictures
