I normally use my old garmin via serial, but lately have been using my gpsslim236 over bluetooth without much problem.

With bluetooth I'm using Widcom's drivers with a Dlink dongle so I have it set to connect to the gps over a certain com port (say COM 8), then I set xport to run at startup and have it connect to the GPS on COM8 and split to two additional ports (14 & 15), if I turn the computer back on and turn the gps on the bluetooth pairing is automatic and usually iGuidance won't fuss at me if I keep it on that same serial port. I mainly went w/ bluetooth because I also have an iPaq that I would like to be able to use with it as a portable setup, otherwise just plain old serial (not usb) is easier and less "moody". About half the time I still use a real old garmin unit via serial that I've had hooked up in the car for the past year.
