well I solved my own problem over the weekend... I was able to thread a 10 guage wire from the dash into the hole with a whole lot of luck involved. I realized that the usb plug would never make it through the hole so I reluctantly cut it off and used a tube crimp to crimp the freshly cut usb wire to the 10 guage cable. I was able to install it in the dash then solder the wire back together and I am happy to report that it still works and looks good.
