Just last week I was showing my carputer to a friend and he started asking about putting a PC in his boat. He has a depth finder which outputs via serial port and he wants to tie that and a GPS into one system to map out the depths on the lake he frequently fishes. One of the problems he talked about no one has mentioned here and that is the shock forces that happen when running full throttle across the water. Boats don't have shock absorbers.
