no way, usb 2.0 is like 480mbps.... that's fffffaaaaaaassssssstttttt!!!

cable length isn't a factor... are you sure your using a high speed cable? is it on a 2.0 port?... I'd look more at your processor load & stuff if the cable & port is good...
