AMP and Griffin Powermate

I use a Powermate for my primary volume control, and it's fantastic. Right now, pressing the button mutes the system volume. I'd like to program it to pause AMP when I press the button.

Since Griffin's preference pane doesn't know what AMP is, there's no easy way to do this (like it's iTunes controls).

I'm horrible at coding, but I would image that it's possible to determine what happens when you press the pause icon in AMP, and replicate that action as an AppleScript or something that the Powermate preference pane can understand.

Any ideas?

try right clicking AMP and show package contents somewhere in the resources folder there should be some .nib files find the one with the pause button and assign that button a key equivalent and see if that does the trick

You will need interface builder which is available on your os x disk

Thanks NeonDev, I completely forgot about the .nib files. I'll give that a try.

Ok, there's 3 .nib files in AMP>Contents>Resources>English.lproj>MainMenu.nib and no matter what I try, I can't get Interface Builder to open any of them. It just keeps telling me that it can't open them. Any suggestions? I'm doing this on a 1.5GHz G4 Mac mini running OS X 10.4.11

thats odd... I just checked a build for Neon Boombox and the nib files open, maybe amp is configured to disallow that... my only suggestion is to download the source code and change it in the source nib and compile it... very strange

I also have problems opening them on my 10.4 machine. No problems though on 10.5 with XCode 3.

thanks guys!

tjipke - I installed Xcode 3 on one of my Leopard machines and it ran great.

NeonDev - Took me a few minutes to find that I had to open the inspector in Interface Builder to add a key equivalent, but I got it and it works!

One last thing. I can open and save the .nib from an already compiled copy of AMP, with no problem, and it's great. However, I have the source code for a slightly more current version (not 2.0, but 1.4 I think?). I open that version's Xcode project, launch Interface Builder, make my changes and save. That's all fine, but when I go back into Xcode to compile it, the option is grayed out. It builds and runs successfully, but I don't know how to compile it.

Thank you!

building a program is roughly the same as compiling it. building refers to compiling all the code linking it and bundling it and prolly more.

set your build settings to "release" and you will find the application in the build subfolder for the project
