A playlist/audio player question for you.

Currently in the windows frontend RoadRunner (which i use currently), I have the ability to browse my music by ID3 tag information or by physical folder structure. with roadrunner you have the ability to add "folders/songs" or id3 "album/artist/song" to an "on the fly" type of playlist, which is what i use a lot. i'll queue up folders of music and just let it play via shuffling.

Is that sort of how your app works with iTunes?

Thanks for the info!

I know the guys working on Harmony have an XM palette working on their program, maybe you can ask them about it?

I have a XMPCR and would love to have that available in AMP as well, plus I know there is a mod out there to convert a normal XM receiver to work with USB...

That's cool. I read about working on the ability to disable ones you don't like, but I missed that you were rewriting most/all of them.

No worries. I'm just offering input with no expectation that it will happen

Another good idea. I'll have to brush up my interaction with Quartz, but I think this can be done. I'm not sure how it would work regardingi the UI though. Where would the controls be?

Right now you have a popup that comes up (most of the time) when a new song starts. I would suggest resizing it and moving it so that it covers the song/playlist area and make it a bit more opaque. Then instead of disappearing, keep it around. Then you still have access to all the controls on the bottom.
For how to access the list then, just have a touch to that area make it disappear. Ideally there would be an idle timer that would make it come back once you have stopped futzing with the list, but coming back with the next song (since you are likely changing songs at that point anyway) would be ok too.

Thanks,
-dave

I can make it if you click on the UI it pops up a menu giving you some access to controls, but then you would have to click a button from there to exit the visual. So it would be two clicks to exit the visual, and one click to bring up the menu to give you access to changing the songs. Vs one click to exit the visualization, then change what you want, then click the visual back on. Hmm..

Hmm..
hmm..

let me think about this.

Why not do something like what BugByte and friends did with harmony? They made a kind of driving window for quick information on what song is playing:

You could add the buttons in like a bar in the bottom of the graphic effect. So like have your visuals but then have a bar (with nothing behind it but black) with play/pause, next, previous, etc.

Here is the 0.8a release:
http://www.aychamo.com/amp/AMP.zip
* You *need* to delete ~/Library/Application Support/AMP/AMP.plist !!
* Repeat: Delete the above file! ~ is a shortcut for /users/YourUserName
* Did you delete it yet?
* Ok, now start up AMP!
* You shouldn't have to re-import your music, but if anytihng looks odd with album art, go ahead and re-import - please try re-importing before posting there is a problem!

- Bugs/Misc
- Fixed a bug where the "Now Importing" screens wouldn't disappear after importing (Music & Photos)
- If you don't have radioSHARK, the Radio button is dimmed out
- Fixed a bug where I was pumping 4x the info needed into the visualizations
- Switched the Play/Slides button on photo view to make more sense

- Features:
- AMP is now full screen [translation: it gets rid of the menu bar/dock and fills the entire screen and dominates its 800x480 footprint], and should be runnable on the 800x480 screens (please someone try and let me know!)
- All visuals now work through the "Visual" button (clicking on the album art no longer does anything). You can configure which visuals you want to see by clicking on the "Utils" (Dashboard) icon from the main menu, then click on "Configure". Then click on "Visuals." Just click them on or off, and they respond accordingly. The enabled visuals will play randomly when triggered by the Visuals button
- A nice little "About" menu under the "Utils" menu
- Shutdown menu is now implemented under "Utils"
- Web Browser + OSK is implemented, but not "skinned" yet [read: it looks like complete ***, waiting on a nice layout idea ]
- Added a "Glowing Apple" visual, and a nicer Aychamo version of the "Spinning CD" visual. The visuals, when possible, keep some sort of rhythm with the music.

- Questions:
- Does the web browser need a URL text bar up top? If you are using a touch screen, you hit the OSK button and type in the URL. You don't need to see it at the top once you've already entered it and are browsing the page, right? It could save a lot of space to get rid of it.
- Where else would the OSK be useful? ("Paths" view under "Config" for sure)

- Still to do:
- Individual playlist item view
- Configure favorites for radioSHARK
- Configure favorites/bookmarks for the browser

As always, thank you for any feedback and bug-reports!

- I wanted to wait to release until I added a few more things, but I'm going to be really busy the next few days so I wanted to get you guys this newest version. Hopefully you can find some problems with it and we can get things ironed out!

Hi Dave,

I think I'll do something like this: in the "movie" player, when you touch the screen it pops up a set of movie controls (stop, rew, play, etc). I'll just morph that window into one with music controls, and the current playng info. Of course, and make it an option for when you access the screen, while viewing a visual, if you want it to just exit the visual or display the music control screen.

... I have a lot of things that I keep saying I will do I need to go through the thread and see what I've said and make a list and start working on it. In the v0.8 I reworked the config menu, so now it will be a lot easier for me to start adding in "Optional" thing like the above.

well when i was using the newest addition i had it crash a few times.

It crashed when I had a song playing and tried to open another one, some times it would work, and others it would crash. I dont know if this will be helpfull or not.

lol Did you delete the AMP.plist file before starting? Did you reimport the music database?

If it crashes, I need you to be as specific as possible about everything.

I need: What version of OS X you are running. What kind of file was it? A protected iTunes file? A .mp3? Did it have album art? And weird letters in the name? Was it in a playlist, or normal? You mean you just had a song playing, and clicked play on a different song and it crashed?

I need all the possible info, so that I can try to recreate the scenairo. I just tried stripping the album art out of one of my albums and reimported, messed around, but I can't duplicate it. Anyone else?

great job on the graphics, i did notice on my one of my fav visuals where the album art shows two cd cases, when it does the flip, it stalls a little bit, but otherwise very solid!
