not sure if this is a bug, but in album view, I have some songs showing up as albums multiple times... so for one album ALL the songs show up as seperate albums but with the same artwork...

It may be, has anyone else experienced that? Is it just for one album, or for more than one? I had a similar problem, but it turned out that it was that iTunes was too clever for me.

If there is very small variations in the names of different albums, iTunes will lump them together anyway. AMP isn't that smart.

Like, iTunes would treat the following as the same album:
Abbey road
and
Abbey Road

Or, if there is trailing spaces before or after the album name, like if an album is named "Abbey Road " (with the space on the end), it will be treated differently. Also.. If the Artist tags have any types of variation (like extra space, or whatever), then it will break apart the albums beneath it depending on which album it is most closely associated with.

Try this: Goto iTunes, and highlight all the songs of the 1 album that shows up like that, and hit Apple-I to bring up the info window, and then mass-apply an artist name and album name, so that they all for sure have the exact same tags in the songs, and then reimport.

I had what appeared to be that problem too, but it turns out the problem was in my tags via iTunes.

Playlists!

Ok guys, I've essentially got playlists put in, along with the forward and backwards buttons to jump through songs, and they autoplay throughout AMP (even in slideshows, visualizations, everything, it's working pretty smooth)

I noticed this though, iTune gives me a whole lot of playlists. Including: "Library", Party Shuffle, Podcasts, Purchased, Recently Added, & Videos.

I've already decided to exclude the "Library" play list, as it's just every single song (but I suppose I could leave it in too?) .. But some of the stuff, like Purchased, or Videos, I think could be left out. I don't know.. What do you guys think? They don't really get in the way, so it's not much harm to leave them in.

The playlists are working nice though. You can just load AMP, goto the music screen, hit playlists, and then pick a playlist and it will play until it finishes. You can do whatever else you want while you have the playlist (except for play radio & movies obviously, as they take over). Pictures, slideshows, visualizations, all work, and they let you know what song is playing when a new song comes on.

I redid a bit of the button layout to allow quick and easy access (and this way makes more sense) between all of the different music types (artist view, album art view, playlists, radio, visuals, etc). I just need to iron in the layout and make sure I'm happy with it, and fix a few things raceer suggested. The scroll bar on the right functions as a pageup/pagedown, and also a home/end button. So I figured it was redundant to have page up and page down on the screen twice.

For anyone who *doesn't* have radioSHARK, when you try to do the radio unit, what happens? I think I'm going to lock out the radio unit if you don't have radioSHARK.app on your computer, just to keep things as bugfree as possible. But I suppose if it crashes on you once, you would learn to not open it again :-)

Oh sorry, no. I haven't implemented it. I can make it just launch whatever. I have all the stuff for the built-in browser, with little short cuts, I just need to make it look better. I figure since it's not ready for car use (because I still dont have my monitor to test it) that I'll finish the main stuff, then add that later.

Do you notice anything that can help diagnose it? Like if any albums have any weird characters in them, or like if it's a common album name or anything at all? Can you try reimporting the database, and re-checking the tags in iTunes.

It doesn't make any sense because the only thing that should work it's way into there ever is albums (obviously). Does everything look normal in your normal artist/album/song views in the other part of AMP?

Does anyone else have this problem?

Here is the 0.0005 alpha release: http://www.aychamo.com/amp/AMP.zip
* You'll need to re-import your music database!
Changes:
- Added playlist support. It will import playlisits from iTunes, and you can get to them from the music menu
- Also added iTunes style continuous playing, where it will iterate through the songs in an album/playlist until you stop it
- Switched the Slides / Play buttons in Photo view to make more sense
- Integrated radioSHARK into the music menu

Notes: radioSHARK screen still looks a bit like ***, I wanted to get the playlist support out to you guys tonight, so I wasn't able to make this look nice
- Also, if you don't have radioSHARK on your computer (/Applications/radioSHARK.app) you can't access the radio menu. It's for your own good!
- I reworked the buttons in the music menu to hopefully make it all flow smoother, and to rapidly switch between all the views
- The PageUp/PageDown buttons are on the scroll bar! Since it's a touch-screen environment, a dragable scroll bar would suck. If you click on the polar ends of the scroll bar (top and bottom) it acts as "Home" and "End" and goes to the top and bottom of the list. If you click above the top half of the scroll bar it acts as "Page Up". And the bottom half, "Page Down".
- The Play button is gone; it had the exact same function as the triangle graphical play button. This is your play button now If you select an artist, and want to see their albums, hit play. If you select an album and want to see songs, hit play. If you want to play a song or playlist, hit play.
- Try this out.. Put on a playlist, then find a visualization you like and let it run, and check out how neat it is when it switches songs!

okay seems to do it on album soundtracks and albums that have several artist performing on them. American Idol Season 1 shows each artist as if it were a seperate album. Also Beyonce` shows that each song is a different artist and album when the song title say Beyonce` featuring Jay Z. Does it on a few other compliations that have more than one disc contained in the album as well.

Just tried the latest alpha.000005. I was listening to a playlist but i noticed there is no pause button. If you press stop it stops it but when you press play it goes to the beginning of the playlist instead of where it left off.

It won't work at all for me. Is it compatible with OS X 10.3.9? I'd like to run it on my Mac Mini in my MINI cooper. When I click to run it, it just acts like the icon is expanding and does nothing.

Maybe this is like front row and won't run on my old OS.

It never pays to be an early adopter.

Thanks

Sorry man, you need Tiger for it. I'm using way too much 10.4 technology to be backwards compatible.

Here is the 0.0006 alpha release:
http://www.aychamo.com/amp/AMP.zip
Just a quick update:
- Pause button!
- Shuffle button (shuffles normal play within an album, and shuffles playlists

---

I'm trying to make everything as simple as possible, and to minimize the amount of clicks to get between different parts of the program. The stop button was worthless, all it did was stop the music, and take up a lot of screen space. I replaced it with a functional pause button. And the pause button gives you graphical feedback when it's paused.

I couldn't just replace the play button with pause, because play button has such a commanding role. You use it to "select" the artist, album, song, playlist, etc. If it was pause, it would be all so weird. So I just put a pause button in. It works really well like this.

Also, put in a shuffle button. Just for those days when you miss your little ipod shuffle , lol

Also, I put in some logic for the rewind button. If you are like into a song, after the first few seconds, when you hit rewind it will go to the beginning of the song. But if you are right at the beginning of the song, it will just go to the previous song instead. So it acts like a normal CD player.

As far as FFW/REW within a song, I haven't put this in. There's no room for it on the UI. The only way I could do that is if I made a dedicated screen that showed you the playing music.... Which may not be a bad idea. Like a big screen with album art, song info, and FFW/REW functionality.

I'm not sure about showing the items in the playlist. Because it adds an extra step for playing the music in it. You'd have to select the playlist, and then select the first song to get it playing. This way you only select the playlist. I can add that in, but it's an extra step, and just one more thing you have to do to get to your music.

I hope the shuffle & play/pause work ok, I put them in inbetween classes today. Let me know! Gotta go!
