Good afternoon everyone,
I spent most of yesterday reading everypost on this thread, because AMP sounds like the perfect frontend for my mac mini. I messed around with the program for a little while last night and it works great. Aychamo, you're doing a great job! I would still like to see a gps, xm radio, and hands free added. My question to aychamo is, would you consider integrating some existing gps, xm radio and hands free programs into AMP? I am sure that if you add an activation section that links to the payment site (because most of these programs are not free) the programmers of the existing apps would be willing to offer the source code.
I'm an electrical engineer. I tried learning to cocoa code, but I know it will take me a long time before I can get to your level. My software background is one class of C for Engineers. I don't think I can be of much use for programming, but let me know if I can help with anything else.
lol, my first post and I write an essay

Hey man!
Thank you for the really kind words. I would love to integrate those types of programs into AMP. The problem is that none of the software out there is friendly at all to integration, and integration itself would be pretty bad.. I was hoping that RouteBuddy software that was recently released would really help us out, but it hasn't started to shine through yet. I need to get a GPS receiver and start working on these types of things.
Also, a friend working on another Mac front end sent me some code to work with XM Radio a while back, so I can probably get that going too. Just another case of me needing to purchase the hardware first.
What do you mean by hands free?
Again, thank you - Aychamo

I remember harmony had XM supported, why not just steal the code from them! lol well maybe not steal, but i do remember one of the devs saying they were going to share it with you... I think that could be doable.
as for gps... thats a toughy, nothing can really integrate. I have seen a few programs/hacks that allow you to use GE as gps, but you cant plot directions very well with it. There is also roadnav but that would be really hard to integrate i would think... i duno, anyone else have any ideas?

Yeah... I don't know man.. I was able to do radioSHARK without a radioSHARK unit cause I had a guy (raceer) helping me out a whole lot, making sure **** worked.. I dont even have a GPS unit (nor a touchscreen, Nul00q, etc.. ) So it's hard to get stuff going with it.. If I had the hardware, it wouldn't be a big deal.. I dont even know if GPS works where I live (in the caribbean - its the same reason I havne't done OBDII - my car doesns't support it)
I'd love to support this hardware, but I'm on student loans, struggling.. I need to save up and get the ****.. I have a whole list of stuff I need to buy.. the Newl00q, a GPS unit, bluetooth phone, etc.. I really want AMP to be the best **** ever, i just need to get around to purchashing the hardware.. But... to be completeely honest, its hard for me to drop a couple of hundred or whatever on a feature i'll never use.. I don't mind implementing stuff, because if its something i've never done, then its a challenge and I enjoy it.
BTW.. I think AMP will be moving to 800x600 soon.. And.. I just got back to the island, I'm a bit inebriated..... (i cant even spell it).. the new version of AMP should be avail soon.. I figured out that graphical file selection thing xomeone was *****ing about a while back ..

WHAT?! lol GPS stands for global positioning system, that means it's global lol. It works everywhere but in dense forest or underground lol. Hell they use GPS in Antarctica to track glacier movement!
As for not having the hardware, you should ask for donations then! If people want something added then they have to pay up! lol creating a program does not come cheap, wether that be in money or time. I mean a simple $5 donation from everyone here would get you a GPS unit.

LOL! Man, I felt so bad when I read my post this morning.. But yeah man, on the airplane ride over here they were showing the movie "RV", so I pulled out my laptop and figured out the file-open thing in a "touch screen" friendly fashion. I'm trying to figure out how much I want to emulate the file-open thing (ie, "short cuts" on the left hand side for Documents, Music, Movies, etc..)

Good point!
I mean, it wouldn't work turn-by-turn or whatever (especially where I live, we just have really one small road that goes around the whole island.. Any destination I would put in would say "go straight until you reach it" LOL
I think the main thing is I don't have a clue what package to get. Does most any GPS receiver work with most software?

I think anything will work, so long as it works on a Mac. I would stray away from wireless though, I think it would be a super pain to have to change batteries all the time.
I was planning on getting this one, bacause it looks popular and reliable (from what I hear):

I believe the most important function that is left is the GPS integration.
Lets hope RouteBuddy plays along nicely.

Why 800x600? Nearly all 7" Touchscreen displays are operating at 800x480!
An option to change between this two resolutions would be better to support these 8" 800x600 displays IMHO.

Hm depends what you call issues.
800x480 isn't working nativly - I had to play around a bit with (the registred version of) DisplayConfigX ( http://voodoofx.all.de/displayconfigx/) to make it work - but now it's working very well! See http://www.macvroom.com/node/36 for an configuration example.
The only problem I had with DisplayConfigX running 800x480 consisted in the fact that i needet to cut the borders to match my display (it took me a few tries)
800x600 of course looks disorted on an 7" widescreen display so it would be a no-go :-/
