Using AMP to output to two sources

I have a Dodge Grand Caravan that I want to build a system for that uses AMP.

My inspiration was this: http://gthing.net/carputer-5-final/

The stock configuration of my Caravan allows me to send a video to the rear DVD screen and wireless headphones while my wife and I can listen to another source on the speakers. I REALLY love this feature, and want to see whether or not this can be done with AMP.

To spell this out clearly, what I want to do is this:

Send one output to a wireless headphones / rear video screen

Send a separate output to the speakers / front video screen

All using one interface. Can it be done?

Thanks for any posts...

not with one interface but a program called detour may be able to handle the seperate audio outputs. I'll post a link later. The video requires a splitter and is pretty self explanitory. Search and you will find a lot of info about it.

What's the feasibility of this:

Getting two USB Audio output devices to plug into a Mac Mini...

Could AMP be tweaked to support sending a different output signal to each of the two devices?

or...

could you utilize fast-user switching with AMP to do this?

Sometimes when you have a hammer, everything looks like a nail. It would be simpler to buy an inexpensive portable DVD player that allows you to send the video to the rear screen if all you want is video and music back there.

this is definitely possible, think of all the pro audio apps and DJ apps that do this currently.

i know the Rogue Amoeba guys personally (i created the Detour icon) and i'm sure they could refer you to documentation on how to do what you are trying.

I mentioned this in the new apple stuff thread but with the Apple TV, you can now do this -sort of.

Attach the Apple TV to the rear screens and give the kids the remote control. Then, put all of their content on the Mini in iTunes. They'll be able to access the content on the up-front computer and watch/listen movies on the rear screens.

Only thing you can't do is stream a DVD to it.

You could do this with a virtualization program like parallels. Setting up the two screen with separate outputs will require some hardware, a dulahead2go or a VT Book (see: sewelldirect.com). As for audio, you can use the mini's audio output for the front, then assign a usb audio device to the second operating system running inside parallels (or whatever).

Controlling it all would be a bit of a mess, you could only have one touch screen.

I was planning a similar setup and this is the exact soultion i was going to do.
FRONT
mac mini
REAR
input A- dvd player
Input B - mac min from the front (just in case i want everyone to see the mac)

Easiest and cheapest way to do it.

does a mini have multi desktop capability like a powerbook?

I can just drag a video window off the side of my G4 powerbook screen and it plays on the TV through the mini dvi to s-video adapter, while I continue to surf the net or whatever on the built in LCD... Something like that would handle the video side of things...

nope, it's a single head video card with only one output. It's no like some older iBooks where an nvram mod would allow spanning like a power book out of the aux video out (the laptop screen would be the primary)
