Whats the diffrence?

I have both MS streets and trips 2005 and MS Map Point '04
I'm looking a them both right now, and except for MP being about 100mb's bigger, prolly for the added buisness entries, I just dont see it.

I was just wondering if making Autotouch use 'Streets' instead of map point might not increase its popularity since Streets only cost $30 bucks.
Add in a $50 usb gps and you got a kick *** gps that covers the whole U.S. and that is dirt cheep and works very well with touchscreens while driving.

???

.

Besides the added POI (points of interest) It's using the same active x control which is actually called Map Point 04'

Mappoint, is used more for business.. in creating custom mapping applications. But they use the same mapping active X

I have MS Streets 2k5 and AutoTouch cries that MapPoint is not installed. I installed them both on their default directories, so I don't know if there's some registry hack or setting that I need to change to let them see each other.

The difference between mappoint and streets and trips is that mappoint is licensed for use in 3rd party applications via an ActiveX control. Technically, they are more or less the same product. If you use streets and trips for something like AutoTouch, I heard that at least with S&T 2K4 you could get any mappoint based program to recognize the S&T control, you are in violation of the license agreement and it is no better then illegally installing a version of mappoint you never purchased.

well that solves the question of will MS S&T 2k5 work in place of mappoint.

I am no programmer by far, so i am saying this out of speculation .. if both mappoint and MS S&T 2k5 work under the same active x control then it may be a simple change.

on a side note I wanted to say thank you to gremlin on the awsome program that he has released to the community. It is a huge donation of time and probley cost and it is greatly appreciated.

I just read GodofCPU's post and that brings up good points also, but I do not understand anything about the legality of such an impact. I do have to say to me it seems kind of ridiculus that a company would act this way towards the kind of use that we would use it for.

Streets and trips doesn't have an active X component it could not and cannot be used in place of MapPoint I've looked into it.

You can import the updated map info into MP2004 from S&T2005. I was reading about it the other day. Although, supposedly, they actually took out roads in S&T2005 but addedd more POIs.

it.
