Blackberry Bold Tethering?

So how about this phone? Anyone tether it using bluetooth for use as a modem for their front-end software?

I do it all the time for traffic on my TomTom and have done it before on my laptop. Basically pair it up and us the standard dialup settings for cingular/AT&T. The one additional thing you need to do to make it work is go to Control Panel->System->Hardware->Device Manager->Modems->Bluetooth Modem->Advanced and enter the following in the Extra initialization commands box:

add AT+CGDCONT=1,"IP","wap.cingular"

This is for XP and it is similar in Vista.

It works just fine using the standard AT&T/Cingular settings the thign you need to do is to add the following under Device Manager->Modems->Bluetooth Modem->Advanced->Extra initialization commands:

AT+CGDCONT=1,"IP","wap.cingular"

the one thing that makes me not so thrilled with using my phone as a modem is that if someone tries to call me, it will immediatly cut out the modem and i lose internet......which isn't so bad on the road i suppose cause i wont be doing any major web surfing while on the road, but still.....it's dialup, so its slow, so things wont pop up quite as fast while on the road...

You know what this country needs? Free WiFi access points running along all major highways, that way while you're on the road, you have high speed wireless internet

i'm going to go back to sleep so i can keep dreaming, lol

If you want 3G speeds, you have two options. You can use TetherBerry or PDAnet for BlackBerry. PDAnet gives you a free trial and TetherBerry is working on that. I have tried both and they work well. Both programs funnel traffic thru your devices internet connection so that you don't get charged for the data usage on your BB data plan.

What provider do you have? If it is CDMA or GSM/EDGE you will always lose the data connection when you are on a call. However on UMTS/HSDPA you will not.

what are the "standard" settings?

I'm using Bluesoleil 6 and it connects to my Bold, I added that init string to the modem settings, but even though bluesoleil says it's connected to bluetooth dun...no data is sent or recieved. I don't care about speed much, and I'd like to try to avoid buying tetherberry if at all possible.

nvm.... found my own answer

I personally plan to use tetherberry because I think it is crazy to pay an extra $30/month for LESS data! (5GB w/ tethering vs unlimited otherwise)
