Recommend a USB Bluetooth Adaptor?!?

I had a Zonet brand USB Bluetooth adaptor that worked fine for connecting my RAZR to my PC... Can't find it now.

So, I am looking for any recommendations on a new one. To me they are all the same, but maybe some people have an opinion on them.

Basically just going to be used to connect a RAZR to a car PC running Digital FX 2.0 / Road Runner.

Make sure it comes with BroadCom software - it will save you some trouble.

By the way, are you aware that with RAZR you cannot operate in BT hands-free mode while using any of the existing pccar integrations (FreeFone, PhoCo)?

For real? Never read that.

I assumed it would work since I can use the RAZR with a stand alone Bluetooth speakerphone, and I can use it with a Bluetooth adaptor to access data on my PC.

I suppose I'd be trying FreeFone, since that is what is in Digital FX now...

I think he means you can't use both the car kit and PC integration at the same time. This isn't limited to your RAZR. Most (if not all) bluetooth capable phones are limited to a single BT connection....

Oh, OK.. That would be better. The other PC connection I mention is on a different PC, inside the house... And the bluetooth speakerphone would be ditched if FreeFone worked.

Buy a kensington usb adapter they are one of the better ones.

I have an IOGear, Kingston and an Belkin. I have had the best luck with the Belkin F8T012v. This thing will stay connected with my Blackberry with me outside while my PC is upstairs. And the audio gateway sounds great ( sounded like crap with my Kingston. One last thing I like about the Belkin is the fact that it can use both MS stack and Broadcomm (Boradcomm is better suited for CarPC use)

i went through a lot of research when trying to decide for a BT USB Adapter.
I was vary of the cheaper ones as their specs were not always what was advertised.

I was looking for a BT Adapter that had:
.Bluetooth 2.0 (cuz my phone is 2.0 too)

.EDR (enhanced data rate ~3mbps)

.Class 1 Operation 100m range
this is usually the parameter that is falsely advertised in cheaper brands. be aware that your device on the other end of the BT communication should also be class 1 to actually utilize class 1 operation. most phones are not, some headphones these days are.

.Widcomm BT Stack (Broadcom)
oldest BT Stack and easy to develop with, hence a lot of ppl use it to make apps with.

.A2DP & Audio Gateway Profile: Allows me to use my PC as a stereo wireless headset for my phone without any other software.

Apart from the above, I also like the BT ActiveSync for my phone and the ability to share my phone's internet connection via BT

Anyways, so my choice of BT Adapters that fit the bill was an MSI Starkey 2.0 USB adapter.

cost me almost 40bux on ebay, pricey compared to the $10 ones, but worth it i think.

how can u tell if the bluetooth device comes with a specific software package aside from going into a store and opening it up?

i do all my shopping online so i cant really do that.

The MSI Starkey 2.0 comes with Widcomm drivers. It also comes with Bluesoil and the Microsoft driver (available on the MSI website). So its pretty neat to be able to pick and choose from what you want.

Oh btw, its available easily on ebay for about 30-40 bux.

The MSI starkey is the way to go. Been reading about it and its pretty much user friendly. I haven't purchase one yet but my iogear bluetooth is ****ing me off. Bad audiogateway.

i have an iogear bluetooth adapter aswell..its been nothing but problems.

the only thing i can do with it is tranfer files from my computer to my phone, other than that its worthless
